Advanced course
This programme is designed for students who speak fairly good Russian. They already have reading and writing skills, as well as basic cultural knowledge. This programme helps to improve your knowledge of Russian grammar, word formation, vocabulary and stylistics. It helps you to improve your speaking skills and to study selected works of classical and modern Russian literature. Depending on individual needs and professional interests, students can choose from a number of special courses.
Russian phonetics
You will improve your Russian pronunciation with the help of this Russian phonetics course.
You will work on the most difficult cases of accentuation of Russian words and intonation in sentences with an expressive meaning. You will study the stylistic distinctions in spoken Russian.
Grammar and Vocabulary
- You will study the most complex points of Russian grammar in detail, including the syntax of simple and complex sentences. You will learn how to correctly use words that have similar meanings but differ in usage.
- You will learn to understand the idioms in fiction, newspaper articles, films, shows and television programmes.
- You will study certain aspects of practical stylistics, the fundamental trends in the development of the Russian language at the end of the 20th century, problems of style and norm, style and fashion.
Applied Linguistic Skills
- You will learn to become "culturally literate", i.e. to familiarise yourself with cultural facts and concepts familiar to educated native speakers.
- You will hone your skills in the art of monologue and improve your writing style through the study of texts with diverse ethno-cultural characteristics.
- You will be able to compose texts in a variety of styles, such as narration, description, explanation and discussion.
- You will learn to analyse texts from different genres from a linguistic and stylistic point of view.
